The Vision
His Majesty's Diamond Strategy
First 20 years of divergent paths in a "One Country, Two Systems" model.
Next 20 years of gradual reconvergence, leading back into "One Country, One System" in 40 years.
To modernise Bhutan in parallel by establishing GMC as a Special Administrative Region (SAR) to act as a catalyst for reform to develop and achieve economic success while retaining core Bhutanese values.

By Royal Charter, GMC Authority is granted wide-ranging sovereign powers to incorporate best practices & policies from around the world to attract global investments, and create the necessary conditions for a value-added economy that will also offer quality employment opportunities for Bhutanese.

GMC's legal framework will cultivate an innovative ecosystem for new industries.
GMC Authority will have legislative and executive powers and an independent judiciary, allowing for customized policies that foster a business-friendly environment while retaining Bhutan's cultural values and commitment to sustainability.
For example, GMC Authority has adopted Singapore common law and Abu Dhabi Global Market regulations for company and financial matters.

Gelephu Mindfulness City aims to serve as a global hub for Buddhist spiritual journeys, seamlessly integrating world-class Buddhist institutions with a rich tapestry of teachings, practices, and cultural exchange, fostering a deep connection between tradition and modern mindfulness.
2. Health and Wellness
GMC aims to establish cutting-edge
R&D centers in medical sciences and biotechnology, driving innovation in holistic health and traditional healing.
Complementing this, world-class wellness and mindfulness retreats will potentially offer transformative experiences, blending ancient wisdom with modern science to promote physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
3. Education and Knowledge
GMC aims to serve as a global specialised knowledge hub, fostering the exchange of ideas and innovation through a dynamic ecosystem of world-class institutions.

Agri-tech will potentially be a key component of the city's push to contribute towards R&D to enhance sustainable food production.
5. Green Energy and Tech
GMC aims to serve as a hub for sustainable innovation, driving investments in renewable energy-hydropower, solar, and emerging green technologies.
With a strong focus on R&D, it can foster cutting-edge advancements in clean energy and technology, shaping a future where sustainability and progress go hand in hand.
6. Finance and Digital Assets
GMC aims to be a leader in financial and digital assets, including the crypto industry, digital banking and innovation.
GMC aims to create a blockchain-based currency called TER, backed by physical gold.
7. Aviation and Logistics
GMC's international airport (targeted to be completed by December 2029) is a "People's Project" and "nation building" effort where millions of dollars have been pledged by Bhutanese citizens in support.
Gelephu International Airport will feature an extended runway to allow flights to connect to major aviation hubs in Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Middle East, and Europe. It will also potentially serve as an aviation gateway to Northeast India.
